“My character is Binabik, a troll of the Quanuk tribe, who is one of the main characters in Tad William’s Memory, Sorrow and Thorn trilogy, and, as such one of the most memorable characters I’ve ever met via a work of fiction.
The three books in Mr. Williams’ very huge series (Dragonbone Chair, The Stone of Farewell, and Green Angel Tower) make up the finest fantasy saga I’ve ever read – and one of the finest works of prose (a close second – George R.R. Martin’s new fantasy series). Some folks say that the books are an “answer” to Tolkien– and the implied racism in those works. Hey, I don’t know about that. All I know is that the series is amazing.
Plus: Whelan does one of his best covers, ever, on Greenangel Tower!
The books have another special significance to me: they were the first works of fiction I’d read in five years, after having begun treatment strategies for adult ADD/ADHD! So that makes them all the more special.
It’s been incredible, being able to fully concentrate on works of fiction again, as well as feeling rejuvinated artistically. Tad Williams’ series is the most memorable landmark of that “rebirth” for me.”
